CarStory Report
You are viewing a 1983 Mercedes Benz 380 SL finished in Surf Blue over Ash Gray. This is a two owner southern SL that is very unique in many regards. First of all, the color combination is extremely rare and shows beautifully. The body of this car is solid and straight with absolutely zero rust. The paint is super glossy and has very few minor defects. The deep blue convertible top is new and shows no wear, whatsoever. The chrome is in fair shape. The glass is in excellent shape. The rims are glossy and near perfect. The rubber trim is in excellent condition. The undercarriage and engine bay are in outstanding condition with no corrosion visible. The interior of this beautiful 380 SL is one of the car's many strong points. The MB TEX seats are perfect, with no wear. The door panels are in excellent condition, with only minor fading. The dash is perfect, with no cracks. The wood is glossy and appears factory fresh. The carpet surfaces are perfect. The gauges and controls are crisp. The visors are fresh. What makes this 380 SL so very rare... The previous owner equipped this car with a rebuilt Euro Spec 5.0 litre M117 V8 engine which produces 298 horsepower. This coupled with a new Bosch injection system. The engine runs strong and sounds amazing. All gaskets, seals, bearings, rings, valve guides and timing chain components have been replaced. The engine does not leak oil. The entire fuel delivery system has been rebuilt. The entire cooling system has been rebuilt. The transmission has been 100% rebuilt. The suspension system has been rebuilt, featuring Bilstein heavy duty shocks and new steering gear. The brake system has been rebuilt, including new pads, rotors, calipers and master cylinder. The driveline has been rebuilt. The exhaust system has been replaced. All tires are new-ish and show very little wear. The air conditioning system has been converted to R134 and it blows very cool air. In addition, a new compressor, expansion valve and drier were installed. All interior electrical switches have been replaced and function as they should. This R107 Chassis SL is one of the best, without a doubt. It is clearly obvious that it has been well cared for, and no expenses were spared in doing so. Included with the car is the original owner's manual set, intact first aid kit, factory tool kit and original key.
